We are looking for an experienced and passionate  Full Time Head Chef to join the PLG team at Highways in Springvale. You’ll lead a talented team, and set the kitchen standard for our venue. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment we want to hear from you!

Highways is located in the hub of suburban south-east Melbourne on the perimeter of Ladbrokes Park (Sandown Racecourse).

Featuring a family friendly bistro with a designated kids play area, great service and a relaxed atmosphere making it the perfect dining experiences for all to enjoy. Along with an extensive modern menu with daily specials, Highways caters to both children and adults alike.

What will my duties include?

- Prepare, cook and serve food ensuring a high level of quality and presentation at all times.

- Develop menus, specials and functions.

- Manage food purchases, menu costings and monthly stocktakes.

- Oversee the appropriate receiving, storage, and rotation of food.

- Food safety auditing compliance including food safety logbook, temperature checks and all other regulatory requirements.

 

The role you are applying for may be quite fast-paced and require you to complete tasks including but not limited to lifting boxes, kegs or stock, standing for long periods of time, and utilising stairs.

 

What we are looking for: 

- Hold a Certificate 3 or 4 in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent)

- Previous experience in a similar role.

- Ability to lead, motivate, and manage kitchen staff effectively.

- Demonstrated high-level customer service skills in a variety of hospitality offerings.

- Proficiency in budgeting and controlling food costs.

- Understanding of current Food Safety Legislation.

- Willingness to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

- Full working rights in Australia.
